Garden Tour: An urban garden Sunken seating area with a contemporary - Imagine coming home to this oasis of peace and tranquility after a day of work in the city. This was the brief that inspired Australian garden designer Charlie Albone to create this magnificent spectacle quiet garden for the Chelsea Flower Show 2016. Featuring a sunken garden, a small freshwater stream and a protected seating area, this is a garden that serenity in his heart.

Australian garden designer Charlie Albone created this exhibition garden for an imaginary client, whom he described as "a corporate torque busy downtown Melbourne, Australia. "as such the garden was created to provide a calming retreat from city life.

The lawn below was designed as a "protective" space, offering a quiet place to lie in the sun while surrounded by "interesting and exotic perennials." It is accessible via a set of steps at each end, covered with impeccably cut Buxus coverage.
A copper water rill down the side of the steps and around the lawn provide visual interest, the gentle movement and the soothing sound of running water.

a palette of rich green color refined, deep blues and soothing white assure the garden feels serene. Here Salvia superba Caradonna Allium 'Purple Sensation' and Lupinus Masterpiece offer a shot of rich purple to silver-green background.

inspired by the need for more green spaces in urban areas Albone wanted to create a garden that harnessed the "healing effect and comfort found while being in a garden."

Behind the outdoor sofa, a bronze sculpture and of copper fauna by an Australian designer reflects the heritage of the garden and was instructed to "embody the freedom of the garden gives the couples who use it."

a bluestone paved path provides texture and interest and was included to give another nod to Australian heritage garden .

The plantation is a mixture of trees and perennial plants mixed with European exotic, such as Leucadendron, Acacia, Protea and Banksia to show the variety that can be grown in Melbourne. The great peaks of Digitalis purpurea shown here, provide height and gentle washing color.

fronds curved to Eremurus robustus peppered throughout borders bring life and character to the formal coverage as they shake their heads and sway in the breeze.

Sixteen Carpinus "floating cube" trees line the garden creating a shady canopy for planting below. Each cube of carefully trimmed foliage measures a precise pleasantly 1,2m x 1,2m x 1,2m.

A central island peony 'Elsa Sass subsp. "The Choice mothers" at the top of the stairs creates a beautiful oasis of colors and scents. Placed in the center of the path they encourage visitors to take a road from the corner of the lawn meander over to the garden to admire along the way.

Enjoying the 'dappled shade of the canopy of trees above, the lounge offers a cool, quiet place to rest and relax.
