Limit finishes - but vary how they are used
This court is all about the view from inside the house. Although there are many hard materials here, there is also consistency, in that a few different types were used, and these were held to create different patterns on the floor and walls.
The overall look is completed with a simple palette of plants used consistently. Try repeating shapes in your own garden to get a rhythm to your planting. Bamboo creates particularly a curtain on the border, while the evergreen balls add softness.

Keep it to feel like a hallway
many places during stop on the way to the back door or another part of the house. This garden is a perfect illustration of how a central element, in this case, a table and chairs, space stops being a passage and makes it a place to linger instead.
There are some interesting tips here: the first is the circular arrangement, which uses raised beds layers and patterned coatings to achieve some attention in the center. The second is that an odd number of chairs is used to emphasize the development in space more. Everything is done with balls and box hydrangeas, which mimic the circular nature of the court.
