Room of the Week: A Basement Spacious Gets a Makeover player - This renovation in Portland, Oregon, turned a dark basement 1970s style in a dream space for a family of four. Designer Erin Davis Mosaik Design & Remodeling and Jenny Guggenheim Figure Studio Interior Design makes full use of the spacious basement of 1,700 square feet, including a playground, TV room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette. Midcentury-inspired furniture and colorful accents add a playful tone to this beautiful hall.

Guggenheim and Davis wanted the style of Basement to be playful with industrial accents. Art and ornaments show the love of family sports and travel.

Removing the many walls in the basement, raising the ceiling and opening the staircase has radically changed the way the piece linked to the outside. The house is located on a slope and the windows let in lots of light. "Most people say it does not feel remotely like a basement when you're there, because now there are a lot of natural light streaming, Davis said.

the kitchenette has all the necessities for messy kids who love to eat - an under-counter refrigerator, microwave drawer and a waste disposal unit in the sink. Mosaic tiles bring the gray cabinets and quartz countertops together. The recovered chrome supports under cabinets originally held train luggage rack.

a staircase divides the basement into a game room and a TV / family room that always works together. the floodlights style and personalized art reflect the love of the customer sport. Bar-height tables and colorful benches provide a place for children to sit while taking a break from table tennis.

a convenient Moroccan inspiration bears the travel theme in the guest room. Once a garage, this space also serves as a storage and gym. Its location at the end of the corridor, ensures peace and quiet, away from the game room.

the rest of the room echoed that theme. During the refurbishment, both Guggenheim and the customer have made individual trips to Spain. Guggenheim has brought the globe lamps and carpets especially for this room. "I think most people can not see the amazing potential as basements, attics and third bedrooms, and that unused space is really wasted space, Davis said. "Most of the time you do not need a bigger house, you just need to live smarter in one you have."
