House of the week: A Light and Airy Scandi style - Basement This basement loft was not always bright and airy - it was oppressive, low ceilings and was used as a dumping ground for tinkering around the house. But the architect and builder Bruce Wentworth saw the potential in the basement and seen as a family fun room with a relaxed feeling than the upper floors. In collaboration with the owners, Wentworth and his team have created a space that houses a media room, a small home office and a sunny playground.

The open floor plan and exposed beams give the feeling of extra height. Band-plated wooden interior columns hidden support beam, ducts, pipes and son. "Instead of trying to merge the appearance of the basement with the traditional design of the upper floors, we opted for a simpler design that reflects their taste and their current lifestyle, says Wentworth.

Wentworth solved the problem of uneven tiles in the catchment underground liquid leveler before installing large-scale porcelain tiles. The tiles are resistant to moisture and stains and are easy to clean, making them an excellent choice for a family room in the basement and a playground.

" There are two young children in the house, so the basement is used as a playroom for children, a TV and media for adults and a lounge that feels more modern and comfortable, says Wentworth.

If the funds were unlimited, Wentworth said, customers would go in the direction of a complete overhaul home. "But in the meantime, it is good for them to have this refreshing change in the basement. Cabinets at this level give the family more storage and organization options for toys and items in bulk.
